What is your life’s purpose? Do you feel lost and confused because you haven’t achieved this unknown yet? Don’t worry, many people haven’t found their life’s purpose and there are even some who have found it, but are hesitant to take the steps in that direction.
A while ago I wrote a blog titled “Defining Your Life’s Purpose“, where I discussed our inner purpose and outer purpose (life’s mission) in hopes this would offer some insight for those who feel frustrated in the pursuit of “finding” their life’s purpose. Here, I want to talk about one more type of purpose, the third and final ingredient, which is, primary purpose (main purpose).
You may be wondering what the heck is a “primary purpose” and how does it apply to my life? Thank you for asking, because that is an awesome question. Primary purpose is the missing link to the other two mentioned above, and it is important to realize what this entails. Our primary purpose is the here and now; the present moment. You are actually achieving this right now. Take that in for a minute and allow that to process… You are actually achieving this right now. How beautiful is that? Very beautiful if you ask me.
No matter where you are in life, realizing that your primary purpose deals with the here and now, aids in achieving the other two types of purpose, because whatever it is you find yourself doing, whether it be listening to music, riding the bus, working, paying attention in class, going for a walk, watching a movie, or reading, that becomes your main purpose in life. This is by far one of the most beautiful truths you can bring to light. Knowing this gives your life direction and meaning.
There is no reason anymore to feel that what you are currently doing with your life isn’t meaningful or purposeful just because you are working at McDonald’s, or some desk job, when you’d rather be a life coach or some sort of healer because you feel those lines of work are more meaningful or fulfilling. Those “meaningful” occupations are no more impotent than what you are currently doing now. Know this and embody this. This is not to say that those occupations aren’t good, because they are, just don’t feel that you’re not achieving something great when actually you are.
The key is to intertwine all three of these elements together, inner purpose, outer purpose, and primary purpose. Together they bring peace and internal freedom because you no longer seek, but rather have arrived and are content with how things are in your life. Life becomes clearer, allowing your soul and heart to speak freely, brightening your inner world, simultaneously sharing this light with your external environment in which you live. It took me a while to comprehend this concept, but once you do, watch how everything changes and brightens up tremendously. This is the gateway in becoming more “You” and more “Authentic”, which so many of us are yearning for.
With this insight you’ve just received, please use it to your advantage. Know that you’ve been achieving and living your purpose all along. There is no reason now to be discombobulated when it comes to the purpose of your life. Take a deep breath in, and exhale. Spread your wings and just live. Live from your heart and soul. Live on Purpose.
It’s not what you do; it’s how you do it.
