This is a brief event told from the perspective of our close friend Mr. Ricketts. It taught him so much about the power of his own attitude and its effects on others. Expect more gem’s like this from him in the future. Enjoy.
I remember I was at work the other day throwing some cardboard out in the trash and a female co-worker approached me and asked, “Hey Sammy do you ever get upset or angry about anything? Every time I see you, you’re always smiling and in a good mood”. I was a bit thrown off by this question because I found it a bit unusual at first, although it wasn’t the first time that someone had brought this issue up with me. I responded by saying, “Life is wonderful and I’m just a really happy person by nature. I don’t see things in a negative light and I always look for the beauty in life no matter what”. After my response she looked at me for a few seconds and then nodded her head. And then I asked her, “Just out of curiosity, why’d you ask me a question of that nature”? And her response was, “I came to work today feeling very sad and upset about things going on in my life and when I caught a glimpse of you smiling, as you always do, I didn’t feel sad or upset anymore. I felt a rush of warmth come over me”. I was blown away by this response because prior to this moment I had absolutely no idea how a smile could affect another human being in such a positive manner. After reflecting upon this conversation I came to the conclusion that you have to be very mindful of the energy that you emit towards the people around you. Whether it be negative or positive, the people you come into contact with will be able to feel it and as a result their mood will be altered accordingly. Always smile and look for the beauty in life because you never know how you can affect the people around you!
