“I know I can… be what I wanna be… If I work hard at it… I’ll be where I wanna be.”
Take a few minutes to really take these words in. Think back to when you were a little child, a time where you were many things from lawyers to astronauts… king and queens. As children we never set boundaries for our selves and were certain, that when we grew up we would be one of these many things we roll-played as children. For many of us, as we got older, those dreams faded away. Why do most of us lose sight of these childhood dreams?
Reason why is, as we get older we develop different interests and such, but the main reason is that we get caught up in” societal standards”. We let “society” distract and steer us, pulling us away from our true selves and zap us into careers and jobs we do not like, creating a lot of misery in our lives. The same way bug zappers distract and pull bugs away from their simple happy lives zapping them into misery.
Growing up as a hemophiliac, I was always told “NO, YOU CAN’T DO THAT”. This would frustrate me because I was young and confused about my bleeding disorder. I had so many limitations thrown at me from other people at a young age. I got to a point in my life where I finally said “forget about being anything when I grow up, because all the things I want to be aren’t suited for hemophiliacs”. I was saddened and lost for a while by all of these “limitations” others would put on me, filling my head with “distractions” forcing me to believe a desk job would be best suited for me, until I heard this song “I Can” by Nas.
It was because of this song, I’ve removed all limitations in my life and worked really hard to be where I wanna be; which is, working with children, creating permanent health solutions for those affected most, helping others mentally, physically, spiritually, image consulting, writing as an author and helping the world from an environmental standpoint.
Listen to this song or read the lyrics that I’ve provided below, and let this song be the vehicle for you to become what you’ve always wanted to be. It’s never too late to live out your dreams. Say to yourself “I know I can… be what I wanna be… If I work hard at it… I’ll be where I wanna be.” – Nas
