Twenty years from now is a very long time to think about, don’t you agree? Who knows where we will be or even what we’ll be doing with our lives. The one thing I’ll say though is this, if we continue to live and think about the future or past, we’ll miss out on all the natural beauties that are here in the now, right in front of our faces.
I, myself have done this for far too long… 25 years to long. I’m certain that I’m not the only one. Changes need to be made right now, not tomorrow, or a few weeks from now… right now.
Two nights ago, one of my good friends sent me a quote talking about this exact thing through a text… “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” –Mark Twain
When I read this around 9pm at night, I just sat in my thinking/ gaming chair and laughed, followed by a deep think. This quote came at the perfect time in my life, because I felt myself slipping, in the sense of losing sight of how I desire and deserve to live life. The reason why I laughed was the simple fact that this has been my philosophy on life since I was in 4th grade, but yet I have never lived my life in this manner.
I’ve realized that I have been a typical hypocrite, which doesn’t fly in my books, because I do my best to be a man of my word.
So I got to thinking some more on why I haven’t been digesting my own “medicine”, and why others don’t take their own advice and live how they feel? I’ve come to realize as I read in my psychology books that, It all comes down to our beliefs, and how we see ourselves.
When we get to thinking about our capabilities, we become fearful, because we over think things which leads us to looking “20 years from now” or “20 years in the past”, causing doubt, low confidence and lack of desire.
We strip ourselves of success and happiness, no one else.
This is why after reading that text from my friend, I made a pact with myself that instead of thinking so damn much as the majority of us do, I need to find the balance between thinking and acting, because “With balanced thought and action, comes success and happiness.” –Damien Williams
I urge you all to do the same as myself, and let’s do the things we want to NOW so that “20 years down the road, we won’t be disappointed by the things we didn’t do.”
My good friend Amanda says it best, “We shalt not take advantage of the present. It’s the only time period that exists. Past and future are nonexistent.” –Amanda Sharpless
With that being said, I’d like to be the first to say, I’m super happy for you and the new found life you have created for yourself. Keep up with the positive momentum, and don’t look back or too far ahead because this will cause you to stumble and fall.
If this happens, just pick yourself backup, dust yourself off, and continue to move forward with a big smile on your face.
Remember, you’re not alone on this wonderful journey, because I, along with 1Cent-1Life will be right there by your side doing the same, 1 foot at a time.
Be fearless, dream big, explore, and just have fun. Life is way too short, and such a blessing to live life any other way.
